Meet the Interns

Katie, Class of 2020, is studying architecture at the University of Michigan

Q: How would you describe the culture at Hutker?
A: The culture at Hutker was very upbeat and supportive. I always felt like I could reach out to anyone around me if I needed help or if I had to learn something new.

Q: How did your internship match your expectations?
A: My internship at Hutker exceeded my expectations. I found every aspect very helpful, especially rotating from each of the architecture studios and the interior design studio. It was helpful to work in different atmospheres with the different studios and not only have the architecture work experience but also work with the interior designers as well.

Q: What was the most satisfying about your time with HA?
A: The most satisfying part about working at Hutker was how much I learned every day and the ability to travel to the sites and see the projects I had been creating marketing drawings for.

Q: Based on your experience, what do you think it takes to be successful at HA?
A: To be successful at Hutker I think you have to have a good attitude and helpful critiques. I noticed that being supportive was a huge part of keeping the atmosphere light.

Q: Do you feel more prepared to enter the field of design after spending 3 months with HA?
A: I definitely feel more prepared to enter the field of design. After my 3 months at Hutker, I knew that I wanted to stay within the architecture school at University of Michigan.

Q: What was your favorite part of your summer on MV?
A: My favorite part of my summer on MV was how beautiful the island was and the accessibility to hiking trails all around.

Q: Favorite lunch spot on island?
A: My favorite lunch spot on the island is the Chilmark Store, the pizza has always been my favorite.

Q: What was your favorite thing to do with your time off during your time here?
A: During my time off I loved to go to Lucy Vincent beach or watch the sunset in Menemsha.

Q: If you were to give an incoming HA intern any advice, what would it be?
A: My advice to future interns would be to dive in and not be afraid, everyone is very helpful with easing you in and making you feel at home.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to share?
A: I just want to thank Hutker Architects for such an amazing experience and thank everyone who I worked with for answering all my questions and helping me whenever I asked.
