Meet the Interns

Mia, Class of 2019, is studying architecture at Savannah College of Art and Design

Q: How would you describe the culture at Hutker?
A: The culture at Hutker is very positive. I experienced kindness, support, and helpfulness from everyone in the office. There was also a really strong studio culture that offered a lot of teamwork and support between everyone which was great to be involved with.

Q: How did your internship match your expectations?
A: Going into the internship, I had an idea of how an architecture office operates from my previous mentorship experience. Hutker worked more efficiently and at a faster pace than the office I previously worked in, which I liked better.

Q: What was the most satisfying about your time with HA?
A: The most satisfying thing I did was working on a current project and seeing something I did or helped with being used in a presentation that is shown to a client. It made it feel like I was really a part of the project and that I was doing something important and helpful.

Q: Based on your experience, what do you think it takes to be successful at HA?
A: To be successful at Hutker, I think you must be willing to work with others very well. Also, you must be able to finish a task for a deadline while maintain quality of work.

Q: Do you feel more prepared to enter the field of design after spending 3 months with HA?
A: I absolutely feel more prepared after my experience with Hutker. I learned a lot about the workings of an office and what it takes to create quality work for clients.

Q: What was your favorite part of your summer on MV?
A: My favorite part of summer on the island is being back with my family and friends as well as the comfort of home.

Q: Favorite lunch spot on island?
A: For work in VH my favorite spot was either Blissed out or Waterside (the CAB from Waterside is my favorite).

Q: What was your favorite thing to do with your time off during your time here?
A: On weekends I usually spent my time with family and friends and of course going to the beach.

Q: If you were to give an incoming HA intern any advice, what would it be?
A: My advice to any incoming intern is to not be afraid to ask for help if you don’t understand something. Everyone in the office is more than willing to help if you need it, and you will be able to get things done quicker and easier.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to share?
A: I just want to express my gratitude for the opportunity! I really enjoyed working at Hutker, and the people I was surrounded by in the office made the experience so beneficial, as well as fun.
