This home, perched on a hill overlooking the tidal salt marshes of Duxbury Bay, required creative solutions to achieve the desired contemporary program while speaking to the vernacular of historic homes in the area. The new home recycles archetypes from the town’s rich history, including gabled forms clad in naturally weathered cedar and a white painted Tory chimney. Presenting as a modest, single-story home from the street, the transparent main entry door begins to break with tradition, introducing a two-story, fully glazed rear wall with panoramic views of the ocean and backyard. The great room culminates in the home’s most striking feature – a cantilevered screen porch that extends over the pool terrace, enabling both a shaded exterior space with unobstructed views, and an interior screened porch that feels as though it’s floating in the trees.
