Island Aerie

This home on the western shores of Gibson Island was designed as a weekend retreat for a young family in nearby Washington, DC. The program is comprised of four distinct gabled volumes.  Navigating through these structures and their flat roof connections, one experiences the architecture and the landscape in ever changing light. Strategic use of exterior materials on the interior of the building and near-continuous glazing on the water-facing façades further blur the line between inside and out. A detached screen porch and pool pavilion extend the home’s livable space during warmer months, all in support of a fun, livable space that will grow with their family.
