King’s Shade

An icon on a peninsula in Buzzard’s Bay, this property is named for its historic lawn shade, which captures the leisurely summer ways of the Cape at the turn of the twentieth century. The gambrel design draws on the region’s shingle-style vocabulary to create a house that sits comfortably among its neighbors and maintains a strong connection to the site, while responding to the needs of contemporary family life. A third floor office, finished in teak and holly and reminiscent of a ship’s cabin, is tucked behind a charming eyebrow window.
