Back River Awarded Project of the Year

Back River has received the distinguished honor of Project of the Year by Builder Magazine. Jurors admired the home’s striking cantilever, its material palette and detailing, as well as its “incredible warmth” and “ability to fit into its surroundings.”

Recycling archetypes from the post-Revolutionary era, Back River balances a contemporary aesthetic attuned to the owners’ modern lifestyle with the neighborhood’s historic identity. “We went a couple steps further with the site analysis and understanding of place when designing this house,” says Principal Architect Thomas McNeill. “We dedicated time to drive around the neighborhood and catalogued a whole bunch of photographs of houses…to try to get a really good understanding of the town’s vernacular.”
